I. INTRODUCTION.
    A. We glory in our American citizenship.
    B. We glory in our families.
    C. We need to glory in the church.
        1. Jesus died for the church that he might "present her to Himself a glorious
            church" (Eph 5:27).
        2. Let's examine tonight why the church is glorious.

II. THE CHURCH IS GLORIOUS IN HER ORIGIN.
    A. Christ established his church (Mt 16:18).
    B. It costs him his life to establish it(Acts 20:28).
    C. Men established other churches, but it cost them comparatively nothing to
        do so.
    D. The church of Christ is the oldest church in existence.

III.THE CHURCH IS GLORIOUS IN HER HEAD.
    A. Different denominations have men or women as heads of their respective churches.
    B. Christ is the head of his church.
        1. Eph 1:22.
        2. Col 1:18.
    C. Men receive their appointments from men and as a rule are subject to them. Christ
received his appointment from the Father and is subject to him.
        1. Jn 12:49.
        2. Jn 5:22.
    D. The heads of different denominations die and new ones are elected. Christ, the
head of his church, will never die.
        1. Rv 1:18.
        2. Heb 7:24.
    E. Men make the laws of their respective churches, but the laws of this church are
        made in heaven.

IV. THE CHURCH IS GLORIOUS IN HER HISTORY.
    A. She has always been glorious in defeat--Rm 8:37.
    B. She has always been glorious in victory--Rv 3:8.
    C. She has always been glorious in her moral achievements.
        1. Philemeon tells the story of a runaway slave; there is reason to believe that
Onesimus, the slave, returned to Philemon, his owner.
        2. The duties of husbands & wives are told in Eph 5:22-33.

V. THE CHURCH IS GLORIOUS IN HER MINISTRY.
    A. The Commission & the invitations.
        1. Mt 28:19.
        2. Mk 16:15.
    B. In temporal things (Mt 25:31-46).

VI. THE CHURCH IS GLORIOUS IN HER IDEAL.
    A. The salvation of lost men & women.
        1. Mt 1:21.
        2. Rm 1:16.
    B. Peace on earth & good will to men (1 Tm 2:1-4).

    C. She will be glorious in the world to come.
        1. 2 Tm 1:12.
        2. 1 Jn 3:1-2.

VIII.THE CHURCH IS GLORIOUS IN THE PRIVILEGES OF HER MEMBERS.
    A. They are not voted on by man to see if they can enter--Anyone who wants may come.
    B. They are not bound by the creeds of men, but may read & interpret the Scriptures
the way the Lord meant them to be understood.
        1. Eph 3:4.
        2. Rm 16:25-26.
    C. The members have the privilege of eating the Lord's Supper every Sunday, &
wherever they go they are in full fellowship (1 Cor 11:23-29).
    D. She is glorious in her divine kinship. God is our Father & Christ is our
        brother (Rm 8:12-17).
    E. Glorious in her inheritance. Heirs of God and joint-heirs of Jesus Christ (Rm 8:17-25).
